Investigation underway after 2 found dead in Statesboro

STATESBORO, Ga. (WSAV) — An investigation is underway after two people were found dead inside a Statesboro apartment on Monday, Jan. 27.

Statesboro Police Department (SPD) officers and detectives responded to the 300 block of South Zetterower Ave around 8 a.m. due to a report of two people dead from gunshot wounds.

Detectives identified the deceased as Dacaris Carr, 22, Statesboro, Ga. and Maneia Stephens, 17, Goodwater, Al. An SPD spokesperson said that they established that there was a preexisting relationship between Carr and Stephens.

Carr and Stephens will be transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Coastal Regional Crime Lab for autopsy.

Police said that there are no outstanding suspects at this time and that the evidence suggests that no other parties were involved.

The final cause and manner of the deaths will be established by the Crime Lab after autopsies are performed.
