SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - Georgia Governor Brian Kemp declared a state of emergency following the heavy flooding in East and South Georgia on Thursday.
The proclamation came on Friday from the Office of the Governor and covers the following counties: Atkinson, Ben Hill, Bryan, Bulloch, Candler, Chatham, Dodge, Effingham, Emanuel, Evans, Irwin, Jeff Davis, Jefferson, Lanier, Laurens, Lowndes, Montgomery, Screven, Tattnall, Telfair, Toombs, Treutlen and Wheeler.
The Georgia Emergency Management Agency and Homeland Security (GEMA/HS) will pull its resources to respond to those areas.
Up to 18 inches of rain was reported in these areas and scores of roads were blocked as a result of the flooding.
