A Paris court has finally closed one of the most talked-about celebrity crime cases of the last decade. Nearly seven years after Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in her hotel suite, eight of the ten suspects on trial were found guilty this past Friday.
Back in October 2016, Kim was in Paris for Fashion Week when masked men posing as police forced their way into her private residence inside the Hôtel de Pourtalès. They tied her up, held a gun to her head, and stole more than ten million dollars’ worth of jewelry, including her 20-carat engagement ring. The robbers then fled on bicycles, leaving the star shaken but physically unharmed.
During the recent trial, prosecutors laid out evidence that linked each defendant to the planning or execution of the crime. The court handed down prison sentences ranging from three to eight years. Because most of the suspects have already spent significant time in pre-trial detention, none of them will return to jail. Two defendants were acquitted of the most serious charges.
Kim’s legal team released a brief statement on her behalf: “It has been a long journey from that terrible night in 2016, and Kim looks forward to putting this tragic episode behind her.”
