Mother of Six Feeds Hundreds of Children In Poverty

Champale Anderson took the poverty in her St. Louis neighborhood personal when she saw how many children were hungry and decided to do something about it.

The mother of six told KTVI all about the initiative she's been leading for the past five years. Anderson's open door policy for kids has been a blessing in the community and their stomachs. She allows them to come to her house for filling snacks before and after school.

“They get off the bus and they just take off running because they never know what I have in the bag. I switch it up. Sometimes I give them special treats for my special babies.”

Her "special babies" get a variety in their meals between vegetables, fruit, PB&J sandwiches, cookies and juice. Champale started off with giving away 100 bags, but soon realized that wasn't enough. Now, she plans on upping her count 150 with hopes of going to other communities and donating to the children there, as well.

“It makes me proud and I want to keep it going."

A motivation that keeps her amazing work going is a quote she lives by from Mother Teresa: "I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”
