Tory Lanez is making a comeback with a brand-new project that was recorded from his prison cell.
On Tuesday, March 4, the imprisoned artist announced the title and release date of his upcoming album, Peterson. In the caption of his Instagram post, Lanez confirmed the project will serve as the sequel to his 2020 LP Daystar. He also revealed the official album cover, which is a photo of himself in prison without a shirt looking a lot more buff than ever before. The album is expected to arrive this Friday.
"Dear 2025 … This COMEBACK is PERSONAL," he wrote.
Tory Lanez completed the album while serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. During a recent phone call with the Full Send podcast, Lanez said it's the first-ever album completely recorded from behind bars.
"An album that’s recorded in prison, for prisoners, by a prisoner in real time as a prisoner is going through his real-time sentence," he explained. "And it’s professional. It’s going to sound exactly like a Tory Lanez album... The pain is there, the hunger is there. You know, the tears, the cries are there. It’s a lot of emotion into it, but it’s the first ever professionally recorded prison album. This has never been done before.”
The Canadian artist went through a lot to make the album. He began recording music last year after he found a way to make music while in prison. He released his Prison Tapes series last July featuring fresh music he recorded from behind bars. However, he had to stop after prison guards took his recording equipment away during a raid in his cell.
"The Prison Tapes will be discontinued until further notice," Lanez wrote in an Instagram post. "However, I think it’s important that my fans know the truth about the crooked ass shit that’s really going on here. My cell was not raided and trashed because I learned how to record myself in prison or because I created The Prison Tapes. I was shut down because the ‘HIGHER UPS’ figured out what I was really doing with The Prison Tapes, and how many inmates were being helped in a life-changing way because of them."
Tory Lanez's new album is dropping this Friday, March 7.
