The iconic Quincy Jones was laid to rest during a private service with his family.
According to a report The Associated Press published on Monday, November 11, the late producer and songwriter's large family gathered to say their final goodbyes at an intimate funeral held a week after Jones' death. The service, which happened at an undisclosed location, "included Mr. Jones’ seven children, his brother, two sisters, and immediate family members.” In a statement, the family said they are "enormously grateful for the outpouring of condolences and tributes from his friends and fans from around the world."
Jones' family is also planning to host a larger memorial service in the future. The details on the public funeral will be shared at a later time. Jones passed away in his home in Bel Air while surrounded by his family. An exact cause of death has not been revealed. He was 91. Not long after his death was announced, numerous celebrities and artists paid homage to Jones including his daughter, Rashida, who posted a heart-wrenching letter about her late father.
"My dad was nocturnal his whole adult life," the actress wrote. "He kept 'jazz hours' starting in high school and never looked back. When I was little, I would wake up in the middle of the night to search for him. Undoubtedly, he would be somewhere in the house, composing (old school, with a pen and sheet music). He would never send me back to bed. He would smile and bring me into his arms while he continued to work...there was no safer place in the world for me. He was a giant. An icon. A culture shifter. A genius."
"All accurate descriptions of my father but his music (and ALL of his work) was a channel for his love," she continued. "He WAS love. He made everyone he ever met feel loved and seen. That’s his legacy. I was fortunate enough to experience this love in close proximity. I’ll miss his hugs and kisses and unconditional devotion and advice. Daddy, it is an honor to be your daughter. Your love lives forever."
