NeNe Leakes could be saying goodbye to The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
On Tuesday's (January 21) episode of The Wendy Williams Show, host Wendy Williams claimed that she got a text message from her friend Nene, who has been on RHOA since the show debuted in 2008, announcing her departure from the Bravo series.
“I took a break between commercials, my office is right there behind the set. I had to go to the bathroom and so I looked at my phone between commercials. And NeNe texts, 'I’m quitting,'" the 55-year-old talk show host told guest Jerry O’Connell, per People, adding that she got the text at 9:08 a.m. “I’m surprised I got it, because I have no service in my office, but I got it.”
Despite Wendy's claim, a rep for Leakes later told People, “It’s been an especially difficult couple of weeks for NeNe, and she was venting to her friend in private correspondence. Nothing has been confirmed or officially decided for next season.” Nene then appeared to respond to Wendy's reading of her tweet on Instagram, captioning a photo herself with her mouth open: "WHO SAID DAT!?!?! #SMH."
As RHOA fans know, it's been a tough few seasons for NeNe. Last year, the OG housewife was accused of choking a producer. And this season, NeNe has already almost gotten into a physical fight with her longtime rival Kenya Moore twice.
Wendy begged NeNe to stay on RHOA on Tuesday, saying, “I know something about NeNe that you all will cry, be sad and feel bad for her. She’s carrying the weight of a huge thing on her shoulders. I’m not going to say it, she’s got to say it. But in my opinion, NeNe, you need this platform to explain the other part of your life.”
While she didn't reveal the "something" she knows, Wendy noted that the secret has nothing to do with NeNe's health, nor her relationship or children. “NeNe, you need that platform to explain,” she said through tears. “That’s all. I’m telling you. NeNe, don’t quit.”
“Forget arguing with them broads — you’ve got that secret, and that secret is going to melt their hearts,” Wendy added. “Because when she shared it with me, I cried with her.”
