Here's How The Royal Family Celebrated Meghan Markle's 37th Birthday

Happy Birthday, Meghan Markle!

The Duchess of Sussex celebrates her 37th birthday today, Saturday (August 4); her first as a royal. (Big deal. Big. Huge!) After a whirlwind romance, beautiful engagement, and iconic royal wedding, Meghan’s celebration this year was surely unlike any other.

So, just how did the royal family celebrate their newest addition? With social media shout-outs, of course!

The Royals made sure to honor Meghan — who shares her birthday with Queen Elizabeth II’s late mother, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon — on her big day by sending their love on just about every one of their official social media accounts. The Royal Family, Kensington Royal, and Clarence House Instagram and Twitter pages all sent sweet messages to Meghan for her birthday.

As for how Meghan's husband Prince Harry treated his wife on her big day — he took her to a wedding.

The newlyweds spent the day celebrating love, attending Harry’s oldest family friend Charlie van Straubenzee's wedding ceremony Saturday afternoon.  While it was a far cry from her 36th birthday celebration (Harry whisked her off to Botswana), the new royal was all smiles when she was spotted entering the wedding ceremony.

The day was surely more event-packed than Meghan is used to.

In 2016, in a post from Meghan’s now-obsolete lifestyle blog The Tig, she revealed that she celebrates her birthday by looking to her future each year.

“My mum [Doria Ragland] has always said that birthdays are your own personal New Year," she wrote. "Your own chance to make resolutions just for yourself and what you prognosticate for your year ahead.”

That year, Meghan’s wish was for "More surprises, more adventure, more opportunities to grow, more days filled with giggles and cheeky jokes, more delicious meals, and more inspiration. Always more inspiration.”
